Moon Landing

moon landing is inspired by the little known story of the women who wove the integrated circuits and memory cores on the Apollo 11 Space mission which resulted in the successful 1969 moon landing.

moon landing was first performed at Somerset House as part of Collect 24 on 28 February 2024 with the musicians seated beneath a 16 metre immersive textile installation created by Textile Artist Margo Selby in response to this score and the journey to the moon.

To reflect the involvement of Navaho women in the creation of the circuits and the Huguenot weavers who brought their craft to London in the 17th century - a heritage Margo upholds - fragments of a Navaho Hoop dance and Huguenot melody are woven into moon landing alongside rhythms and textures which bubble throughout to echo the weaving of multiple threads and stitches - reference to Margo’s industry on the loom and the women who enabled the moon landing.
